Forgive and live with the child in you.
Be gentle to that child.
Understand its pain.
It’s rejection, abandonment and shame.
You are not to blame.
Know it comes from a different time and place.
Put it in a box, marked ‘the past’.
It wasn’t given a loving face.
Nor growth and space.
Love the child in you.
Help it develop with love and taste.
Give it security and warmth.
Understand it’s view.
It can grow anew.
I’m an adult now.
I was a helpless then.
Now looking after the child within.
Keeping it loved, cared for and safe.
Knowing I’m in a stronger place.
Living a fuller life with grace

So important to be able to do – it prevents one being drawn into a childish over-reaction.

Thanks for your comment. It’s for all us. As I believe we all carry the child of our life’s previous traumas and experiences with us.
Thanks Mike
This poem was written for all of us. For the child that we all carry with it’s past associations, traumas and experiences.
To help and understand what has contributed to make us who we are today.
