Join us for another fantastic Open Mic, at the excellent Wellington Hotel, with our fabulous guest poet Jasmine Sharif!
Jasmine is trained in theatre and dance, including Middle Eastern dance, which she is also developing as performance, magically weaving bellydance, music and spoken word together. This was showcased by New Writing South as part of Brighton Fringe.
She is a writer of performance poetry, short stories and drama, and her work has been published in a Creative Future anthology inspired by Brighton & Hove Museum and Art Gallery: “Museum Tales”.
Her poem, “Wave”, inspired by paintings of the sea exhibited at the Towner Gallery, has also been published online, and a selection of her poetry has been shown as part of an exhibition of South Asian women’s writing at the Jubilee Library and she was invited to read at the Feminist Bookshop in Brighton.
In 2024, she has been invited to feature as guest writer by Seahaven Poets, who have described her writing as “an intriguing hybrid of genres”.
She has also had a short story “The Sheikh’s Delights”, recently published in Covert Literary Magazine (online).
Jasmine’s critical writing has also been published in online music magazine “Jazz Views”. When not writing, she enjoys true crime podcasts and singing in jazz clubs.
We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to the Wellington, once again, for the delights of an impeccable evening of poetry and the spoken word.
Open mic’ers are all welcome – there will be plenty of slots available to share your work.
If you don’t fancy sharing, you’re more than welcome to come and get a drink, some food, and watch and listen to our incredible guest poet, and enjoy the work of all the open mic’ers.
We can’t wait to see you there!
