I were sailin’ on the ocean
Free as a man can be –
Me ‘eart were all apumping
An’ me sails waved prettily!!
The boat, it were a corker
An’ all the brass shone bright
I ‘and’t met the captain
‘Cos ‘twere the middle of the night!!
I thought we should be anchored
So I banged on captain’s door –
‘E didn’t ‘ear the rumpus
‘Cause ‘e were making more!!
“Captain, captain ‘ear me
We should be anchored down,
We can’t see in the darkness
An’ all of us will drown!”
Me worries gave me courage
As I crashed right into room,
The smell of perfume ‘it me
Then I saw them through the gloom.
T’was the captain an’ his lady
With a parrot on ‘er ‘ead –
Surely on ‘is ‘oneymoon
‘E won’t want that bird in bed!
But I’ve ‘eard the sea does strange things
To sailors near an’ far –
‘Tis those exotic places
Where they slurp from bar to bar!
Many a tar’s been broken
By those journeys full of spice,
An’ sailors’ wives will tell you
They learn ‘abits which ain’t nice!
They come home with wild ideas
Spurred by music rum an’ sun
An’ can’t wait to go to sea again
‘Cos their wives just ain’t no fun!!
Great fun – sounds a bit like young boys picking up bad habits from the internet these days.
